The Corky McMillin Companies was founded in 1960 by Corky McMillin who led the company until his passing in September 2005. Today the company is run by Mark and Scott McMillin, Corky's sons. Mark and Scott have each assumed the role of Co-Chairman/CEO and direct the Executive Committee responsible for strategic planning and corporate decisions for all entities including land acquisition and development, homebuilding construction, sales/marketing and customer service.
The Corky McMillin Companies is made up of several companies: McMillin Land Development, specializing in the acquisition and development of large-scale communities; McMillin Homes, responsible for building homes throughout the state of California and in San Antonio, Texas; McMillin Commercial, San Diego's largest commercial developer specializing in office, industrial and retail development; McMillin Realty, San Diego's largest independent real estate firm; and McMillin Mortgage, which underwrites and funds its own loans. McMillin Capital, an affiliate, is a real estate investment and management company that serves as an equity investor for McMillin Commercial and McMillin Homes projects among others.
Over the last 46 years The Corky McMillin Companies has built more than 20,000 homes (approximately 10,000 of which have been built and sold in the last 10 years), 16 mixed-use master-planned communities, more than 20 community parks, college dormitories and 2,000 military residences on seven bases. The company is responsible for over 10 million square feet (250 acres) of commercial, office and industrial land developed and/or sold since 1960.
The Corky McMillin Companies now operates across five divisions: San Diego/Riverside, Bakersfield/Visalia and Imperial Valley/Yuma, Arizona; as well as in San Antonio, Texas. The company employs approximately 1,000 people plus about 500 real estate agents with 11 offices throughout San Diego County and one in Bakersfield, California.
